Dhabha owner stabbed to death over Rs 250

Late on Monday night, a food stall owner was stabbed to death by a group of three customers after an argument over the bill, which amounted to Rs 250, at a dhabha in Okhla. The victim’s brother also received serious injuries and his condition is stated to be critical. All the accused have been arrested. 
 
The incident took place at 10.44 pm, when three men, identified as Rashid (21), Akram (21) and Saheb(19) arrived to have dinner at a dhaba in Okhla’s whole sale vegetable market. The accused are local vendors in the same area.

According to police, after having dinner, Yusuf (25), the owner of the dhaba asked his customers to pay a bill of Rs 250. After going through the bill, one of the vendors started an argument with Yusuf claiming that he had overcharged them. ‘The heated argument turned violent and the owner was brutally beaten by the accused. Witnessing the incident, Yusuf’s brother, Navaab, intervened but the accused had beaten him too,’ a police official said.

In an alleged fit of rage Rashid stabbed Yusuf with a knife kept in the kitchen area. Later Akram and Saheb joined him with skewers and stabbed him to death. After he received stab wounds, Yusuf collapsed to the ground in a pool of blood. Meanwhile, one of the accused stabbed Navaab on his hand and the trio managed to flee from the scene of crime.

A call was made to the police control room at around 10.55 pm by another shopkeeper and soon a team arrived at the spot. The victims were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma centre where Yusuf was pronounced dead on arrival. Navaab is currently undergoing medical treatment. Doctors told police that Navaab’s condition remains critical and has been kept in the Intensive Care Unit and is unfit to articulate his statement. 

Based on the information given by eyewitnesses, the accused were arrested. They are said to be siblings and hail from western UP. ‘The accused have been booked under the sections of murder, attempt to murder of the Indian Penal Code,’ the official added.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, boiling oil was thrown on a shopkeeper after he asked the customer to pay for momos. The incident took place in south east’s Sunlight colony, late on Monday night.
