The union home minister Rajnath Singh, while putting the onus on the previous UPA government in identifying to dump nearly 11,100 ‘irrelevant files’, has assured the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the new government will not allow tampering or destruction of any file which is related to India’s glorious history. Informing the Rajya Sabha, the home minister claimed that the selection of file or links, which was suppose to be dumped was identified during the UPA regime between August 2012 and May 2013. It would be wrong to speculate that the BJP-led NDA government is trying to destroy India’s history. Replying to queries raised by members on the Minister’s statement made on July 11 on alleged destruction of 1.5 lakh files in his Ministry, Singh assured the House that no file relating to Mahatma Gandhi, former President Rajendra Prasad, former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri or the last Indian Viceroy Lord Mountbatten has been destroyed.
