Despite two deaths, swine flu situation not serious: Doctors

The death of two patients due to swine flu may have caused panic among citizens of Delhi but according to city doctors, even though there is an increase in the number of swine flu patients, the situation is still not that serious.

A doctor attending swine flu patients at RML Hospital said: “Normally, the starting of winter is the time when you mostly see the increase in swine flu cases.” He further added:  “It is a viral infection that causes fluid to come out from the glands towards the chest, which then causes breathlessness.” The doctor stated that if a patient has cough, running nose, headache, breathlessness and fatigue, they must get themselves consulted.

The doctor said that in the last two weeks there have three to four casualties due to swine flu but they were bought to the hospital in a very serious state. To stop the disease from spreading there must be proper hygiene and the masks to prevent contracting infection.

At Safdarjung Hospital, an attendant at the swine flu ward said that among most of the tests conducted for swine flu, around fifty per cent were found to be positive. The doctors warned that young children less than twelve years of age and old patients, especially those with diabetes and cardiovascular ailments must be extra careful.
