The flyover was inaugurated by chief secretary SK Srivastava on 1 March amidst much fanfare. However, it has developed big potholes at one end leading towards Wazirabad due to incessant rains the city has received over the past week.
The flyover has already been repaired once but the pothole is clearly visible. Locals and motorists have raised doubts about the quality of work on the flyover and questioned the inspection carried out by the concerned authorities.
‘What kind of work have they done in all these years? We thought this flyover will make life easy for us. However, we are more concerned about our safety now’, said Anil Goel, an auto driver and a regular visitor of the area. The flyover has become prone to accidents due to big potholes towards the end of the stretch.
Gaurav Singhal, an accounting professional said, ‘it has become very risky especially for two wheelers. Vehicles usually come at faster speeds and it is very difficult to spot the pothole. There are chances of losing balance.’
A senior municipal officer, requesting anonymity, said that these things happen with every other flyover. ‘Same things have happened in the past with Mayapuri flyover in south-west Delhi as well. No officer pays serious attention during inspections’ the officer said.
Meanwhile, no officials of the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) could be reached for comment on the matter. The 860-meter long flyover is a part of the Signature Bridge Project being constructed by DTTDC. The flyover is believed to help decongest the Khajuri Khas intersection and ease traffic movement between Bhajanpura and Wazirabad.
