Despite jammers, phones & SIM cards continue to find place in Bhondsi Jail

Even after jammers being put in place in the Bhondsi Jail premise, there seems to be no end to the smuggling in of mobile phones and SIM cards.

According to the information received from the jail authorities, around 96 mobile phones have been recovered from Bhondsi jail in 2015, while 35 mobile phones have been recovered till March 8 in this year.

Despite strict surveillance by the jail authorities and regular raids conducted by the Gurgaon Police, a total of 71 SIM cards were recovered from the jail premises in 2015 while 38 were recovered till March this year.

Apart from mobile handsets and SIM cards, the jail officials also recovered Sulfa and Opium on February 1 and March 4 respectively. This indicates that Haryana Prisons department needs to take action to control the smuggling menace in the jail.

In most of the cases, these items are found from the inmates after they return from a court hearing or their family members meet them. In majority of the cases these items are found hidden in the common areas like washrooms, gaps in the walls, gardens etc. Therefore, it makes it difficult for the checking party to identify the owners.

Following this, the district police have now sent a notice to the in-charge of court surveillance staff stating that when the inmates go to the district courts for hearings, their family and acquaintances try to meet them, which is not allowed and should be kept a watch upon.
