DERC adjourns hearing of showcause notice

DERC secretary Jayshree Raghuram confirmed that a few discoms had requested the adjournment of hearing till 10 July stating: ‘Our standing council is out of India, so we are unable to appear on the designated date, 26 June.

Therefore DERC has adjourned the hearing till 10 July. Earlier, taking note of media reports on power crisis in the city, DERC held a meeting with distribution licensees, DTL and Central Electricity Authority ( CEA) on June 9 to review the situation after the sudden disruption of power supply due to occurrence of storm on 30 May.

The Commission had taken a serious note of the power supply failure and expressed its displeasure to DTL and discoms for delays in execution of approved schemes by them. They had also served a show-cause notice on 18 June.

The Commission has directed DTL and discoms to reply to this notice within a week and thereafter attend a hearing scheduled on 26 June.

In case of non-receipt of such replies to the show cause notice within the time prescribed and their failure to appear before the Commission, DERC

would proceed in absence as per law and no further notice in relation thereto shall be given.
In several public meetings of DERC, representatives from various resident welfare associations (RWAs) and NGOs had accussed the commission for working for the discoms.
