DEPwD signs MoU for training and employment

With a vision to provide training and employment to the persons with disabilities (PwDs), the Department for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social justice & Empowerment has inked an MoU with Wadhwani Foundation. Disabilities department secretary Lov Verma represented the ministry as <g data-gr-id="13">signatory</g>.
The partnership aims at using technology to create scalability for training and employment of 5,00,000 PwDs in three years, with <g data-gr-id="18">overall</g> target of 25,00,000 by <g data-gr-id="17">year</g> 2022. To achieve this goal, the Wadhwani Foundation has committed to co-invest an amount of Rs. 12 crore to Rs 60 crore in the next four years, by leveraging the government funding in the ratio of 1:10.
On the occasion Joint Secretary Mukesh Jain said, “India needs to integrate its sizable disabled population into society. This can only happen if we empower PwDs economically and the best way is to train them for better job opportunities. Through this MoU, Wadhwani Foundations will help the government in bringing multi-dimensional technology enabled e-content solutions like massive open online courses to meet PwD related <g data-gr-id="15">skilling</g> objectives.”
