Workshop on redressal of grievances by elderly

NEW DELHI: Delhi Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam on Friday inaugurated a workshop convened by the Social Welfare Department on 'Implementation of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens' here.

Gautam conveyed his best wishes for conducting such workshops for speedy redressal of grievances of the elderly.

Several dignitaries including senior officials of the department, DM, additional DMs, Joint Commissioners of Police, Secretary of Delhi State Legal Authority Services, legal experts and high court judges attended the workshop.

The Social Welfare Department is the nodal agency for implementation of social security schemes for weaker sections of society, including the elderly, differently-abled and intellectually impaired.

It also regulates maintenance tribunals and appellate tribunals have been set up in all eleven districts for speedy justice to provide relief to the aggrieved senior citizens.

Each maintenance tribunal comprises of two non-official members and the additional district magistrate (ADM), who serves as the presiding officer/chairperson.

He said the workshops can be a landmark, with lots of good decisions from the constructive inputs received.
