Woman thief duo belonging to Madhya Pradesh held
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday said they arrested two women thieves from Madhya Pradesh, involved in stealing cash from banks, buses and marriage venues. The accused were identified as Lalita (25) and Rachna (26).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bharadwaj on Sunday said that one Anil Aggarwal had filed a complaint that on August 6, when he had withdrawn Rs 50,000 from a State Bank of India branch in Janak complex, "two women distracted him and stole his Rs. 50000 from his bag."
CCTV footage was collected from the bank, which showed two suspicious looking women keeping an eye on Aggarwal's activities.
Photographs of the suspected women were distributed to security guards (praharis) of all banks and community centre complex, who were also regularly briefed by beat staff of Delhi Police.
After sustained efforts, Brijesh Kumar, a security guard at the Indian Bank branch in Janak complex, said he had seen the suspected women when they had come to another bank for committing theft.
He immediately informed the beat staff, who reached the bank, and the women were soon arrested.
"During custodial interrogation, both the accused women disclosed that they are the member of a notorious gang of thieves in Madhya Pradesh. They came to Delhi in groups and steal cash, jewellery from banks, marriage functions, buses etc and later abscond to MP," police said.
