Woman stabbed to death by neighbours in Greater Noida

GREATER NOIDA: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her neighbours in the early hours of Sunday near her residence in Greater Noida's Jalpura area.

Family members of the victim Nazma Ali said that she was sleeping outside her house in the verandah, when the neighbours suddenly confronted her. Police said the woman's body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

"We were both sleeping outside on separate cots. Around 12.30 am, I was woken up by my wife's screams and I five people near her, who had stabbed her with a knife.

"It was dark, however, I was able to recognize two of them as my neighbours," said Akbar Ali, Nazma Ali's husband.

He has alleged that the family had an ongoing dispute with their neighbor Vinod, who Ali suspects is behind Nazma's murder.

"We collect garbage from the neighbourhood. The contract had earlier been in our name but later Vinod started doing the work. This had led to multiple arguments between our families," said Akbar.

Based on a complaint by Nazma's family, cops said that a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the two accused, Vinod Kumar and Rajiv Ranjan, both residents of Jalpura.

While Vinod works as a rag picker, Rajiv works as a clerk in a private bank, cops said, adding that both thee men are in their early thirties.

Narrating the sequence of events, a police official said they were alerted about the incident almost immediately, but by the time a police team could reach the spot, the woman had died.

Nishank Sharma, circle officer-3, Greater Noida, said, "We have taken both the accused into police custody, but they have not been sent to jail as we are still investigating the matter."

"We are verifying the claims made by the victim's family. So far, no one has able to confirm about the arguments the victim's husband alleges took place," he added.

Sharma further said that even though the death is due to stabbing, cops are still awaiting the post-mortem report.

Nazma and Akbar worked as daily wage labourers and have four kids, two of whom are already married, said police.
