Woman lawyer raped by senior advocate in South Delhi

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a lawyer who was involved in a sexual assault case in South Delhi's in Saket court complex. Police claimed that the victim is also a lawyer and was assaulted in the accused's chamber. Police have started their questioning and investigation is on from every angle. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Romil Baaniya confirmed the incident as well as the arrest and stated that they are taking action as per law.

According to police, the accused was arrested in the morning after they received a complaint against him.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when the 32-year-old woman visited the accused chamber for some work when she was sexually assaulted. The accused was in an inebriated condition during the assault.

The 54-year-old accused has been arrested from Sangam Vihar area under different IPC sections. Police are also questioning other persons in this regard to get further clue in the case. The chamber where the alleged assault took place has been sealed and different teams have inspected it. It is not only the first case, another such incident was reported from Rohini. In April, a 26-year-old woman claimed that she was raped by a lawyer inside his chamber.

Recent data by Delhi Police claimed that more than 1,600 cases of crimes against women were registered with them between January and April this year.

The data, recorded till April 15, states that 578 rape cases have been reported, while 883 cases of molestation have been registered in the Capital.

Moreover, Delhi Police registered 182 cases of eve-teasing. The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post stated that in the current year till April 15, more than 500 accused were arrested on rape charges whereas over 700 persons were nabbed under the charges of molestation whereas over 120 persons were arrested for eve-teasing.
