Woman forcefully confined, raped by 60-year-old

In a shocking case, a 21-year-old mentally unstable woman was forcefully confined and raped inside a cycle repair shop in New Sanjay Amar Colony area near Farsh Bazar on Sunday.

The accused, 60-year-old Prem, used to run the repair shop and had allegedly lured the woman when he found her sitting alone in her house.

Prem was later caught in an objectionable position with the woman, after her relatives and neighbours barged into the shop after breaking open the main gate.

The incident took place on Sunday morning around 11.20 am, when the woman was alone in her house located in the same area. Her father, who works at a local vegetable market, and mother, who works as a house maid, had both left for work.

The victim was suffering from a mental illness and was seeking treatment at a hospital in East Delhi.

Prem, who was passing by her house, noticed that the woman was all alone in the house. He approached her and told her that she should not be left alone inside the house and asked her to accompany him to his repair shop till her parents returned.

When the victim reached the shop, Prem forcefully confined her and raped her. When she tried to raise an alarm, he threatened her with dire consequences and managed to silence her.

In the meantime, her brother had reached the house and found her missing. After enquiring her whereabouts, the neighbours informed him that they had spotted his sister with Prem.

Soon, the neighbours and the woman's relatives barged into the repair shop and found Prem in an objectionable position.

The infuriated people went on to thrash Prem and handed him over to the police.

"They tried to break open the door after repeated pleas to open the door went unheard. Sensing that something was amiss, they barged into the shop and found Prem with the woman. The residents were angry and they thrashed him for a few minutes, before one of them made a PCR call and informed the police, "said a senior police official.

A police team was later deputed to the spot and the accused was arrested.

Later, the woman was taken to a local hospital where it was confirmed that she was raped.

"The accused has been produced in a local court and the woman is currently being counselled," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdra) Nupur Prasad.
