Woman forced to have abortion as quack prescribes wrong medicine

New Delhi: A pregnant woman had to undergo an abortion taking a medicine for abdominal pain on the prescription of quack in the Nabi Karim area. The quack, Madan Sharma, runs a clinic on the scooter and used to prescribe medicine by reaching their respective homes.

According to the official, "The case came to light when the so-called quack gave the medicine for abdominal pain to the pregnant woman and after this the woman started bleeding. Later, the situation of the woman became worse and she had to undergo an abortion. However, the relative of the victim alleged that the accused was treating people without any medical degree or certificate and the concerned department were not aware of it. Moreover, a complaint has been filed at anti-quakery cell of Delhi Medical Association. The accused, Madan Sharma, is active in the Nabi Karim area and runs an a clinic on the scooter only. "It's been a long time that this quack is active in this area and considered as a doctor," said a relative.

Victim's husband Rahul said that his pregnant wife was suffering from the loose motions, thereby, the victim incurred a moderate pain in her stomach. To get the immediate relief, Rahul took his wife to the Madan Sharma, who is famous in the locality and used to carry all the medical utilities in his scooter.

Dr Girish Tyagi, Secretary, Delhi Medical Council, said that the matter is utter shocking that a person posing as a doctor is running a clinic on the scooter. We have received complaint which indicates that doctor is a quack. "In such a case, action will be taken under Section 27 of the Delhi Medical Council. Under the provision, a penalty of Rs 20,000 and a punishment of three years can be given," Dr Tyagi added.

At the same time, another senior official, Anti-Quackery Cell, said that a complaint related to the case has been received. The person (Madan Sharma) is not registered with Delhi Medical Council (DMC) too. "The complaint has been transferred to the DMC for further action. Apart from this, the complaint will be sent to local police and we will take action in the matter.
