Woman claims being raped multiple times by godman

New Delhi: A 25-year-old woman has alleged that she was raped by a self-styled godman and his disciples several times, Delhi Police said on Monday.

Cops added that the woman approached cops at Fatehpur Beri police station in south Delhi on Sunday with a complaint against Daati Maharaj, the accused godman

She told police that she had been a disciple of the godman for a decade, but after being sexually assaulted by him, she returned to her native place in Rajasthan, police added.

After she recovered from the trauma, she narrated her ordeal to her parents and they approached police, who registered a case.

Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal met the woman and said that she should be provided police protection.

"Met girl who alleged rape by Dati Maharaj in his ashram. The girls story is simply horrifying and it appears that she has gone through the utmost torture. She has a threat to her life. Issued notice to Delhi Police to imm provide her protection. Dati Maharaj shud b imm arrested!" Maliwal tweeted on Monday.

The Commission also sent notice to the station house officer of Fatehpur Beri, in which it was stated that the Commission is in receipt of a complaint from the girl, wherein she alleged that she was raped by godman Daati Maharaj and some other persons at Ashram Shri Shani Tirth Kshetra, 329, Asola, Fatehpur Beri in Mehrauli.

The notice further stated that woman had submitted that she was raped repeatedly even in Gurukul Ashwasan, Bal Gram, Sojat, Pali (Rajasthan). She also submitted that a woman priest helped the accused in this heinous crime.

The atrocities revealed in the complaint are really horrid and need to be investigated urgently, DCW stated.

Cops said on Monday that an FIR has been registered. However, DCW said the woman said has not yet been provided a copy of the FIR and medical report, despite her requests for the same.

The Commission also said that the woman stated that there is a threat to her as well as her family's lives, especially while travelling to and from the police station.

"You are requested to look into the matter and provide immediate protection to the survivor. Please provide an action taken the report to the Commission in the matter latest by 15.06.2018," it said.
