Woman brutally thrashed by landlord and his family, dies
New Delhi: A 44-year-old widowed woman died after she was beaten brutally by her landlord and his family in South Delhi's Mehrauli area. Police said that accused suspected her of being a thief.
Four persons including two women were arrested in the case. Police identified the deceased as Manju Goyal who lived on the fourth floor of the house in Mehrauli area.
After her husband's death, the woman was working as a helper at various homes in the area. According to police, they were alerted around 8:12 pm on Saturday after a PCR call was made by the deceased's brother Mahesh Jindal (51), a caterer by profession. He told police that his sister was killed by 3-4 persons.
Adding further investigators said when a police team reached the spot, he said that his sister was staying at the house of one Satish Pahwa as a tenant. On Saturday's morning at around 8.15 am, Pahwa called his wife that her sister -in- law was allegedly caught committing theft from their house.
"After reaching Pahwa's residence, he found that his sister was beaten by his landlord Satish Pahwa, his son (Pankaj Pahwa) and others on the allegations of theft," an investigator said.
Jindal took his sister to his house as she was complaining of pain in her chest. At around 7.45 PM, Manju Jindal was declared dead at the house of her brother in South Delhi. Deceased's body was sent to AIIMS Mortuary for postmortem examination.
During the investigation, the police team arrested Satish Pahwa, his son Pankaj Pahwa, wife and Kamlesh (maid) in the case. During interrogation accused claimed that they have caught Manju while she was stealing money from there house. She was interrogated by the family regarding money. "The family members started beating the woman with fists, slapped her," police said.
Police said that her husband was running a small grocery shop at Rewari Haryana. After the death of her husband, due to indifferences with his In-Laws, she came back to Mehrauli. The woman was living at the accused's house from last six months. Goyal is survived by her two children who were in Haryana at the time of the incident.
A case has been registered in Mehrauli police station.
