Wall collapses in Greater Kailash; one dead, five injured
NEW DELHI: The wall of an under-construction building collapsed in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area, killing one person and injuring five others on place on Saturday afternoon.
Officials of the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the incident at 12.10 pm and soon a team was rushed to the spot for rescue work.
Locals were helping members of the construction crew in the rescue work, before the DFS team arrived.
Three fire tenders were sent to the spot, a fire service official said. He added that six people were injured and taken to the Trauma Centre at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where one of the victims succumbed to his injures, while the others are undergoing treatment.
"On Saturday, a PCR call was received at CR Park police station that a wall collapsed at E-583, Greater Kailash, in an under construction basement, where a total of six labourers were injured. All were sent to AIIMS Trauma centre, where 42-year-old Satish was declared brought dead," said Romil Baaniya, DCP (South).
On behalf of builder Nitin Verma, his father as well as the contractor are being questioned by police to verify whether necessary permissions were taken and requisite safety arrangements were made during the construction work.
The remaining injured persons have been identified as Narayan (48), Durga Majhi (38), Kapil (27), Ramswarup (50) and Ravi Mishra (35).
Sources said that the under-construction basement wall collapsed and its debris fell on the labourers working on it. Local police, PCR team, fire personnel, disaster management teams and CATS ambulances all attended to the incident.
"We have registered a case and legal action is being taken under sections 287 and 304A of the IPC," Baaaniya added.
