Wall collapse incident: MCD orders probe; 2 engineers suspended
New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has ordered a probe into the wall collapse incident in the Alipur area and suspended a junior engineer and an assistant engineer, a senior official said on Saturday. Five people were killed and nine injured after the wall of an under-construction godown collapsed in outer Delhi's Alipur area on Friday.
"A probe has been ordered into the incident and action has been taken. A junior engineer and an assistant engineer have been placed under suspension, pending inquiry," a senior MCD official said.
The inquiry was ordered on Friday on the orders of the municipal commissioner, he said, adding the action has been initiated after taking "serious cognisance of the unfortunate incident" in Bakoli village.
Police on Friday said a case has been registered and two people have been arrested.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party held the MCD responsible for the disaster.
AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak said that the SDM of the area had informed the MCD about the illegal construction and that any untoward incident could take place at any time but no action was taken in the matter.
The party has demanded that a proper investigation be conducted and the culprits should be punished under sections 302 and 307 of the IPC.
Pathak said that if the investigation is conducted it will expose the BJP leaders who took money for letting the illegal construction to go on. "It is not possible to construct such a godown without giving bribes. Similarly, no serious investigation is taking place in the Mundka fire accident. MCD never takes the investigation of any unauthorised construction in Delhi and BJP leaders get off the hook," Pathak said.
