Vulnerable employers: Since 2017, 466 thefts committed by servants
New Delhi: Employers can become vulnerable if they hire servants illegally or without verifying their antecedents. The Delhi Police data revealed that as many as 466 theft were committed by servants from 2017. Police have arrested 269 persons involved in the crime.
The Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post revealed that in the year 2017, 203 cases were reported whereas last year, servants were involved in 186 thefts. This year till (June 15), 77 cases have been reported.
"In 2017, 85 cases were solved. Last year, 88 servant theft cases were worked out and this year, 32 cases were solved," data claimed.
The data further added that 103 persons, accused in servant thefts, were arrested in 2017.
In 2018, 116 persons and in 2019 (till June 15), 50 persons were nabbed for their involvement in servant theft cases.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said, "We aware people to verify their servants before hiring them. If the verification form is filled, it will help us in the investigation."
In 2019, the sleuths of Delhi police (Northwest district) have arrested a 19-year-old girl, who has allegedly stolen jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh and cash from a house at Kohat Enclave in Delhi's Pitampura area where she used to work as domestic help.
Last year, Delhi Police busted Bhagam-Bhag Gang from West Delhi's Nihal Vihar and Mukundpur area.
The gang members usually contact victims who were in need of domestic maids, then went at their houses along with maids, receive security amount of Rs 20,000 to 25,000 from them and left maid at the house of victims.
After 1-2 hours, maid also absconded from the residence of the victims. The gang were running six fake placement services.
In 2017, two women have been arrested for posing as maids and stealing jewellery and cash of their employer in southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar area. Police said that the women- Rajrani (27) and Renu (21)- belong to a gang that is based outside Delhi but targeted posh localities in the capital.
Cases of house theft till June:
The Delhi Police data further revealed that since 2017, nearly 15,747 cases of house theft reported in the city in which 4,501 cases were solved. As many as 4, 820 persons were nabbed.
Data further stated that in 2017-10,739 cases, 2018-3,727 and 2019 (till June 15)-1,281 cases were reported in the city.
