Village in Greater Noida tense after clash erupts
Greater Noida: A person received bullet injuries while some others were injured in an incident where bricks were pelted and shots were fired after two groups clashed over a fight between children during a cricket match in Jarcha area of Greater Noida on Wednesday morning.
Heavy police force was deployed in the area to maintain a state of law and order.
Police said that during a cricket match, some children reportedly had a quarrel with each other which turned into a full-blown scuffle between two groups of elders of the village.
According to police, the injured persons have been identified as Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem, Mohammad Arif, Waqil Khan and Umar Khan. Rizwan received bullet injuries and is undergoing treatment at private hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.
"The incident was reported around 7 am in Kalonda village of Greater Noida. The complainant said that two groups were firing and pelting stones at each other after following a fight. A police team rushed to the spot in order to bring the situation under control," said Krishan Kumar Rana, station house officer, Jarcha police station on Wednesday.
Police said that the attackers used country-made pistols to fire at each other and pelted stones.
"Based on the complaint filed by Mohammad Intezar, Rizwan's uncle, we have booked five persons under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 147, 148 and 149 (rioting, rioting with deadly weapon and unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code. We have formed teams to nab the accused, as they are currently absconding," added Rana.
Following the clash, tension prevailed in the village and residents remained indoors throughout the day.
Police said that the situation is under control now and they are holding meetings with the elders to ensure law and order in the area.
