Verification of tenants in bordering areas: More than 1,000 cases registered

New Delhi: From a security point of view, bordering areas of Delhi are very sensitive. Even slight negligence in safety, at times, may have serious consequences. Nevertheless, it seems that people living in those areas are taking security measures too lightly.

The city police have registered more than 1,000 cases during verification of bordering areas' tenants.

Police sources told Millennium Post that as many as 1,191 cases were registered under sections 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of IPC in 11 districts.

"Most of the cases were against landlords for ignoring the rule and rent out their properties without police verification of their occupants," an officer said.

Various police districts share their borders with other states. Through tenant verification, police can know the history of any occupant whether the person had any criminal record.

Sources said that Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, in a recent meeting, instructed all police officers to be vigilant in their respective districts.

"The top cop also reviewed security measures including tenant verification," sources said.

Sources claimed that as many as 843 violations were found. The North East district registered 567 cases under section 188 of IPC whereas 375 cases were registered by Outer North district. The South district registered 229 cases. As many as 192 cases were registered by North West district.

Adding further, sources disclosed that as many as 145 meetings were organised with bordering districts officers and 7,262 tenants living in bordering areas were verified. The city police also shared details of 2,418 tenants with bordering districts officers.

Sources, explaining on tie-up and action against criminals operating across borders, said," In this regard as many as 132 meetings organised with counterparts. Around 155 joint actions were taken against criminals." Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Alok Kumar, elaborating more on violations at bordering areas, "We look for unverified tenants. And we are registering cases of 188 IPC against landlords when we found that they have not got their tenants verified."

He further added that they also register 188 IPC cases against sim card dealers, cyber cafe and guest house owners for not maintaining proper records.
