Vehicles under Minto Bridge once again submerged in water
New Delhi: Last Friday, pictures and videos showing a DTC bus almost submerged in brown muddy water at Minto Bridge went viral.
Monday saw a rerun of the episode as heavy downpour near Minto Bridge again turned the area into a rescue spot, as many bus passengers were stuck in neck-deep water.
"We rescued some women and children who were struck inside the bus. A handicapped man was also rescued," said a local boy, who helped passengers get off the DTC bus, which was half submerged in rainwater under the Minto Bridge.
Men, women and children were trudging to safety through the water, resulting from the heavy rains on Monday.
"We have already written to the PWD (Public Works Department) to flush out excess water through pumps. We also diverted the traffic, considering the situation of water logging. Now there are some buses which move ahead and get submerged in water,," said DK Gupta, DCP (Traffic).
Contrary to the police's claims, however, it appears that preparedness in facing heavy rains is lacking.
On Monday, waterlogging was reported at Rajouri Garden towards Punjabi Bagh near Moti Nagar crossing, under Moti Nagar flyover, at Mayapuri Chowk, at Zakhira underpass, at Bhairon Enclave Ring Road and Agrasen Hospital Rohtak Road.
The Capital witnessed a humid morning on Monday, with the minimum temperature settling at 25 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. The weatherman has predicted that rainfall would continue and the mercury is expected to settle below the normal level in the coming days.
