Vagabonds' record helps police arrest robber
NEW DELHI: The photographs of vagabonds of the area had helped the Delhi police solve a sensational robbery case in which a journalist was attacked with a knife and his valuables robbed at Nizamuddin. The accused, a youth and a juvenile, were identified by the victim journalist through the photographs the police had shown him.
On September 23, a TV journalist was going to New Delhi Railway Station to pick his wife. On the way near Flyover Neela Gumbad, Humayun Tomb his car's tyre got punctured. As soon as he stopped his car to change the tyre, two boys came from Khusro Parkside and attacked the journalist with a knife and forcibly robbed his mobile.
The victim reported the matter to Nizamuddin police station and was shifted to AIIMS. During the investigation, criminals with similar modus operandi were questioned and secret informers were also alerted by police. The cops asked the victim about the description of accused persons, on which he replied that if a photo of accused persons is shown to him he can identify them. To identify local beggars, vagabond and ruffians, local beat officers of Nizamuddin are maintaining a photo album of such persons. The complainant was shown this album and he identified one of the accused. The cops then arrested the accused who was identified as 22-year-old Faisal.
"During sustained interrogation, accused Faisal disclosed that he is a vagabond and lived on roadsides in the area of Hazrat Nizamuddin. He is a drug addict and in order to meet their needs, they started petty thefts and later started robbing people. Accused Faisal was previously arrested in a robbery case. They both were looking forward to disposing mobile phone to a railway passenger but before they could do so, both were apprehended by the police staff," said DCP South East Chinmoy Biswal.
