Vagabond held for trying to rape woman lawyer
New Delhi: A vagabond was arrested by Delhi Police after a 26-year-old woman advocate alleged that a man attempted to rape her inside a park in south east Delhi's Amar Colony.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Chinmoy Biswal on Monday stated that after receiving a complaint from the woman, a police team immediately left for the spot and arrested the accused under appropriate sections of the law.
"The woman reported the incident at Amar Colony police station, following which police reached the scene and spotted the accused in the park and nabbed him," said the senior police official.
He further said that the accused is an alcoholic and lives in a nearby area.
Sharing her ordeal in a series of posts on Facebook, the woman said she was walking in the lane towards the park in Amar Colony last Thursday when the incident took place.
"Suddenly, I felt someone holding me and pulling me inside a park. This park is not easy to enter as it has a two fenced door… In a few seconds, I was inside the park and this man was holding my waist approaching me for some sexual act. I tried to take his hands off and smacked his face hard," she said in the post.
The advocate said when she tried to catch hold of the accused and hit him, he hit her back and then managed to flee by climbing up a wall.
She immediately reached the nearby police to file her complaint and the man was arrested the same day after the woman was accompanied a police officer to the park, where the accused was spotted sitting idly.
