Unlicensed paragliding centre unearthed in Manesar

Gurugram: An illegal paragliding centre was revealed to have been functioning in a five-star hotel at Manesar in the outskirts of Gurugram, after a woman customer was seriously injured.

Police seized the unit and have summoned the managers of the paragliding company for questioning, after the unit was found to have no proper clearance.

They are also investigating into how long the paragliding centre was functioning in the city and how it got the clearance from the hotel to conduct the adventurous sports. The employees are also being questioned of their training credentials.

After the woman sustained injuries during a paragliding attempt gone wrong, a complaint was filed with Gururgam Police. Sources said the centre was being operated by a company based in Mumbai.

The woman is currently in hospital and said to be out of danger.

There are numerous paragliding centres in Gurugram, whose popularity has increased as most people find it a cheaper alternative to Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Though no deaths due to paragliding have yet been reported in Gurugram, there have been cases in some cases where faulty equipment and lack of untrained professionals resulted in death of paragliders.

In Gurugram, the risk persists that due to a dearth of professionals, accidents could lead to the death of first-timers.
