Unfortunate that women, girls considered weaker sex: Baijal

New Delhi: "It is indeed very unfortunate that due to a very small percentage of misguided, uninformed and anti-social elements, the women and girls are considered to be the weaker sex," Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said on Tuesday during an event named 'Sashakti' which was organised by Delhi Police for empowerment of girls.
The South Zone police had organized a mega function to promote self defence training for women and girls at the Thayagaraj Stadium to showcase the year-long accomplishments under the newly introduced 'Sashakti' programme. Baijal was the Chief Guest for the event which saw enthusiastic participation by over 7,000 school girls trained in martial arts, drawn from seven districts of Delhi Police.
The L-G addressed the event and stated that in a country like ours where every form of accomplishment is deified like Saraswati for knowledge, Laxmi for wealth and Durga for strength, it's indeed very unfortunate that due to a very small percentage of misguided, uninformed and anti-social elements, the women and girls are considered to be the weaker sex. He also told Delhi Police Commissioner to take a few steps in future like inducting more police personnel, also a concept of women police station in Delhi.
Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik highlighted the need for learning self-defence techniques as a tool for raising self-confidence and empowerment of women and girls and reiterated the commitment of police towards the safety and security of its female residents. To end the ceremony, there was laser light show in synchronization with the national anthem and a display of over 7000 certificates in self-defence training which the schoolgirls held aloft as their way of thanking Delhi Police and the chief guest.
Joint CP, Southern Range, Praveer Ranjan laid down the details of the efforts undertaken by Delhi Police towards sensitisation and empowerment of women and finally the vote of thanks was given by DCP (south) Romil Baaniya who stated that they would ensure that each and every women and girl of Delhi remains safe, secure and lives her life with full dignity.
