Unable to pay loan, man kills himself

NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old youth committed suicide at the Church compound quarters in Khan market, while his family claimed that he was forced to take the step due to tension over borrowed money. Police said Ruban was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a servant quarter on Friday evening.

No suicide note was found at the spot. "On enquiry, it was revealed that he had committed suicide by hanging in his room while his wife along with her children had gone to meet her mother in Khirki Extension Malviya Nagar. When she came back around 2.45 pm she found him hanging from the ceiling fan with 'chunni' and took him to the hospital," said a police officer.

It was revealed that he had financed two cars and was unable to pay the installments as he was not getting work for a few months. Earlier these cars were on contract. Ruban's parents work in the church located in Khan Market in south Delhi. He is survived by his wife and two minor sons. Ruban's cousin brother Marx Mathew said the family suspected foul play.

He claimed that Ruban was tense as his friends were harassing him over the money he had borrowed. "He was also having some financial dispute and a case is also pending in Patiala house court. Post-mortem was conducted on August 18 and dead body handed over to family members," said DCP New Delhi Madhur Verma.
