Two youth killed, three girls injured as car rams into pole

New Delhi: Two young men were killed, while three young women were seriously injured when their car crashed into a traffic signal pole in north west Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar in the early hours of Sunday.
Delhi Police officials claimed that one of the girls, who was driving the car, was under the influence of alcohol.
Police said the deceased were identified as Siddhartha (20) and Ritesh Dahiya (21).
While Siddhartha was living with his family in Pitampura area and doing graduation from Maharaja Surajmal Shiksha Sansthan in Janak Puri, Ritesh was a native of Haryana's Sonipat and a second-year BSc student at Venkateshwara College in Dhaula Kuan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Aslam Khan said the accident occurred around 2.45 am, when the girl driving the car lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the central verge at Hudson Lines T-Point.
Two of the girls were sitting in the front, while the other girl and the two young men were sitting in the back of the car – which was severely mangled.
"The driver was under the influence of alcohol and was driving at a very high speed from Vijay Nagar to Kingsway Camp. She lost control and hit the central verge, before knocking the traffic signal installed there," the DCP said.
The victims were reportedly returning from after a party when the incident took place.
Siddhartha and Ritesh were rushed to a hospital, where they were declared brought dead.
The deceased had received fatal internal injuries, including severe injuries in the head.
Police said that the girl driving the car was arrested after being discharged from hospital.
All three girls are first year LLB students between the ages of 19 and 20.
Police claimed that they have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
On Sunday morning, the locality where Siddhartha lived bore a desolated look, with residents claiming that his family left in their car on Sunday morning as soon as they received news of his demise.
