Two toddlers suffer burn injuries after parked car catches fire

In a terrifying incident, two sisters, aged two and three, got trapped inside a parked car in the garage of their house and sustained major burn injuries after it caught fire in Sultanpuri area of Outer district. Both the girls are undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.
On Thursday, around 9.30 am, when the residents of the house in Kishan Vihar in Sultanpuri were preparing to go office, they noticed smoke coming from nearby.
Suspecting that it could be something serious, the grandmother of the two girls raised an alarm.
Following this, the family members rushed downstairs and were in utter shock when they saw that their car parked in the garage was on fire and black smoke was billowing from it.
The incident turned into a nightmare for the family when they saw both the girls, Lakshita and Deepanshi, trapped inside. Immediately, the little girls were taken out and rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital.
They were soon transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, owing to their grievous burn injuries.
The car was taken out in the open and the fire brigade was called. Some local residents helped the family to douse the flames.
"The girls have sustained 50 percent burn injuries and the doctors are monitoring their condition," said a senior police officer.
"It was a horrific incident. The two kids sustained serious burn injuries. We rushed them to the hospital," said Hanuman Prasad, the grandfather of the two girls.
According to the family members, the sisters often played inside the car but the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Police are investigating the case.
