Two multi-level parking to come up in old Gurugram
Gurugram: In order to reduce the traffic congestion in Old Gurugram the public agencies is expected to begin the process of constructing two multi-level parking in the city.
The two projects are expected to come up at Kamaan Sarai and JacobPura. The total cost of the project is estimated to be over 130 cores.
The largest chunk of the budget is expected to be spent at Kamaan Sarai. Situated in the heart of Gurugram, the area is just meters away from Mahaveer Chowk and Sadar Bazaar witnesses traffic jams daily.
With four major intersections in the area, there is already heavy traffic twenty-four hours the day. What makes the matter worse is the lack of parking facilities around the area that results in a lot of illegal parking around the area. Even during weekends, two to three policemen are seen daily managing the traffic. The matter becomes worse during monsoons which further triggers the jams.
Even though there have been resentment by a section of society that construction of the multilevel parking at Kamaan Sarai will damage it historical significance, the officials at Municipal Corporation of Gururgam cite that the matter is now resolved.
The public administration was first thinking of constructing underpasses in the area. Protest by shopkeepers to not vacate their shops however resulted in a change of strategy for the agencies.
The first multilevel parking in Gurugram was constructed in 2018 at Sector -29.
Taking cognisance of the shortage of parking spaces and vehicles being wrongly parked, officials at MCG stated that the move of providing free parking will help in tackling this major challenge to a great deal.
To make sure that the shopping establishments provide free parking and do not charge its customers, officials from Gurugram police will also be a part of the entire process.
