Two Gurugram vendors killed as speeding Range Rover hits them
Gurugram: Two teenaged persons died as they were hit by an over speeding Range Rover (Discovery) at Rajendra Chowk in Golf Course Extention on Sunday night.
The deceased, who have been identified as Mordhaj Yadav (19) and his nephew Anil Yadav (14), worked as street vendors .
The accused, who has not been identified yet, fled the spot leaving his vehicle behind right after the incident.
The victims ran a Gol Gappa stall near the chowk and lived in Tikri village tenants. The incident happened on Sunday night at 10:35 pm when the victims were wrapping up their daily business and returning home.
The impact of this crash could be gauged from the fact that both the airbags of the Range Rover came out, a facility that may have proved valuable in saving the driver's life.
Moreover, the bonnet of the vehicles also was completely obliterated after the incident.
Besides being involved in the horrific crash what could also go against the driver is the fact that he was driving without a number plate that has also led law enforcement officials to believe that it was a newly purchased vehicle.
"As soon as we saw this, we rushed towards Mordhaj and Anil. Many people gathered and we took them to the sector 10 government hospital in an ambulance," said Devendra Kumar, Mordhaj's brother.
The accused, however, managed to remove the number plates from the vehicle and flee the spot. Kumar added that when they reached the hospital, where the doctors declared them brought dead.
An act of reckless and careless driving was once again a case of destroying two families that of Anil and Mordhaj. The youngest among the two deceased, Anil, had four sisters and had come to the city to make enough money so that he can marry of his three sisters.
An FIR has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving ) and 304A (death by a negligent act) of IPC at Sector-65 police station.
The cops have recorded the statements of Kumar who is also a witness in the case and an investigation is underway.
The bodies were sent for the post-mortem on Monday morning.
"We have recorded the statements and are trying to identify the accused at the moment," said Inspector Ashok Kumar the investigating officer in the case. According to Gurugram traffic police, 15,000 drivers have levied fines for rash and negligent driving in 2018.
