Two die after falling into pit filled with water

Noida: A seven-year-old girl and her uncle died after they fell into a pit filled with water in Sector 121 near the dumping ground on early Tuesday morning. Police had to call NDRF teams to locate the bodies.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Nancy (7) and Ankur (22), both natives of sector 121 area of Noida.

Deceased Nancy's father Shera said that the child and her uncle had gone to play near the ground when they fell in the pit where water had collected. "There were other children present in the ground at the time of incident who informed us and we rushed to the spot," said Shera.

The family immediately informed police and a team from Ghari Chowkhandi police station rushed to the spot. Noida's city Magistrate Shailendra Mishra and other senior cops also reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

"Following the incident, a police team rushed to the spot but when we failed to trace the bodies, a deep diving team of NDRF Ghaziabad was called. The rescue operation continued for nearly five hours. The child's body was retrieved by afternoon while the body of youth was recovered around 7 pm," said Mishra.
