Two children die as fire engulfs shanty

NEW DELHI: In the fatal incident in a slum near Filmistan Cinema in the Sadar Bazar area, two children Ganesh, 10 years, and Swati, 5 years, were killed. Their mother Suman (28) and brother Dhruv, 7 years, suffered 55 per cent and 70 per cent burn injuries respectively and were admitted to a hospital. "The fire reportedly started from an LPG cylinder and spread to their shanty around 2.18 am," said a fire officer.

The police and the fire service received a call from the place of incident C-62/16, Tibia College, Karol Bagh, Delhi. A lady named as Suman and her son named as Dhruv having burn injuries were rushed to RML hospital by ERV, of police station DBG Road. The first floor of the resident was engulfed in fire due to fire in the cylinder. Firefighters and electricity department were quickly informed and they arrived at the spot. The fire was finally extinguished.

"Two dead burnt bodies were found and shifted to RML emergency. Upon enquiry, it was revealed that Suman was living on the address along with her family members, her husband - Kishan, her 2 sons- Ganesh (10 yrs), Dhruv (7 yrs), and one daughter Swati (5 yrs). Ganesh and Swati got burnt in fire and expired," said DCP Central, MS Randhawa. While Suman and her son Dhruv are undergoing treatment in RML hospital.
