Trio who robbed passengers in cab nabbed in east Delhi

New Delhi: Three men who robbed unsuspecting people in Delhi-NCR by pretending to be a cab driver and its passengers were arrested from east Delhi area late Saturday night.

Delhi Police on Sunday said the accused have been identified as 35-year-old Satender, thirty-year-old Rahul and 25-year-old Shahul.

According to the investigating agency, around 1.30 am on August 6, one Vibhooti Tyagi, resident of Noida, had boarded a cab from ISBT Anand Vihar to go to Noida.

During the trip, three passengers – who were already seated in the cab – overpowered Tyagi and they looted him of his belongings.

The accused also took away cash his ATM card and withdrew money with it.

Acting on a complaint filed by Tyagi, a case was registered and teams were formed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said that the arrest was made on the basis of an information that the accused were present in a car near Gazipur Mandi.

Late Saturday night, all the above three accused persons were apprehended by a police team near the mandi.

"The accused persons revealed that they are the members of the Vishal gang, which is based in Trilokpuri. They have been committing crimes of this type for the last one year," Singh said.

"They have committed many robberies across the Delhi-NCR, particularly in east Delhi," the DCP further said.

He added that the three men own different types of cars, having registration plates similar to that of private cars.

They used to go to bus stands and search for single passengers, looking to go to Noida, New Ashok Nagar, Mayur Vihar and persuade them to sit in the car.

After driving for a while, they would overpower the passenger and loot their belongings. They also would take away the victim's ATM card to withdraw cash. After that, they would dump him in isolated places and flee.
