Trial runs flagged off at 9.7 km stretch of Pink Line

New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Wednesday started test runs on the 9.7 km-long Lajpat Nagar to Mayur Vihar Pocket-I stretch of the 59 km-long Pink Line, stretching from Majlis Park - Shiv Vihar.

The test Runs were flagged off by Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC, in the presence of other senior officials.

According to a DMRC statement, "This stretch, which will be a continuation of the presently operational Majlis Park–Lajpat Nagar section, will be a major boon for commuters of prominent areas like Ashram, Mayur Vihar etc. The Hazrat Nizamuddin Metro station on this stretch will connect the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station as well as the ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan."

"During these test runs, the interface of the Metro train will be checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement with civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track and also testing of various subsystems of coaches shall be done," said an DMRC official.

He added that new signaling technology, known as communication-based train control – which is being used on the Pink and Magenta Lines – will also undergo rigorous testing in stages.

The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the Operations Control Centre will also be monitored during the trials.
