After the Delhi Police seized currency last week, which was on its way for supply in the upcoming Delhi MCD elections, another case has come to light where one person transporting 1488 quarters of illicit liquor was arrested from Nisaria Masjid, Shahdra on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Tarun Singh, a resident of Trilokpuri. The illegal liquor was sealed and a case was registered at Seema Puri police station.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdra), Nupur Prasad, the incident came to the fore when constable Pradeep Sharma and constable Sumit were deployed at a picket located at Nisaria Masjid in New Seema Puri.
"The constables were deployed for routine checking and around 2.25pm, one Honda City car was spotted and the police personnel stopped the vehicle for a random inspection. Upon checking the vehicle, 1488 quarters of illicit liquor were found and seized," said Prasad.
After registering the case, the police found out that the driver of the car, Tarun Singh, had transported the illegal liquor from Haryana and was taking it to the capital for supply in the MCD elections.
"Tarun used to work as a car electrician and is married and has a child. He was instructed to supply the alcohol for the upcoming elections. We are trying to ascertain the source of the liquor and the driver is currently being questioned," said a police official.
In a similar incident two days ago, Crime Branch officials seized 1.25 crore that was being transported in three different cars
from UP to Delhi when they were looking for terror suspects in Seelampur.
