Traffic to be affected due to Muharram processions
NEW DELHI: Traffic would be diverted across various roads in the Capital on Friday as processions and tazias would be taken out at various places to observe Ashura, the tenth day of the Muharram month of the Islamic calendar.
The processions will start from Chhatta Shahzad in Kalan Mahal and pass through Pahari Bhojla, Matia Mahal Chowk, Jama Masjid, Chawri Bazar, Chowk Hauz Qazi, New Delhi railway station, Chelmsford Road, Connaught Place, Outer circle (wrong carriage way), Parliament Street, Jama Masjid, Raisina Road, Vijay Chowk, Krishna Menon Marg, and will reach Karbala around 6 pm.
Another procession will start from Pahari Dheeraj in north Delhi around 1 pm and reach Paharganj bridge via Qutab Road and merge with the aforementioned main procession at Chelmsford Road.
The processions from Nizamuddin, Okhla and Mehrauli would reach Karbala directly.
At 9 am, 'Alam and Taboot' procession will be taken out from Shia Jama Masjid and terminate at Panja Sharif at Kasmere gate around 4 pm.
"There is likelihood of slowing down and congestion of traffic along the routes of the processions and adjoining roads. General public and motorists are advised to avoid the above mentioned," said Alok Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
