Traffic cops on toes to ensure commuters reach home safely

Gurugram: The rain on Monday once again exposed the infrastructure of the city with huge waterlogging reported from various areas. There were also traffic jams reported from the area. In order to clear the chaos, 625 traffic police officials across 26 locations have been deployed on the city roads to manage the traffic. The stress that they accumulate during the job can be gauged from the fact that one of the police officials suffered from a sudden cardiac arrest and died while on duty.

For long, there have been reports that long and irregular working hours of the traffic constables is taking a toll on their health. "It is definitely not an easy job. We also have to hear criticism from the residents who feel we are an impediment to their freedom. It is our duty and despite the challenge, we have to do it sincerely," said a police constable who wished to be anonymous.

A large number of police officials were seen on busy traffic routes like Mahaveer Chowk, Sikanderpur and MG Road in order to control the traffic. Moreover, after the new Gurugram police commissioner asked the policemen to make their presence felt, the increased number of policemen were seen patrolling on the city streets.
