Traffic cop manhandles photojournalist, transferred

A photojournalist was allegedly manhandled by a traffic cop at India Gate on Tuesday morning.

The Delhi based newspaper photojournalist was on an assignment when he faced the wrath of the policeman.

The accused police was later transferred to lines initiating a departmental inquiry into the incident.

The photojournalist alleged that while he was on his assignment his collar was grabbed by the errant cop and he was roughed up.

"He grabbed my collar and also abused me. I was simply doing my assignment, which seems to have irked the cop. Four more cops joined in and started threatening me. They even snatched my identity card," said the photojournalist.

After the journalists brought the matter in the notice of the senior officers, ASI Jasmeer Singh was transferred with immediate effect.

"We have transferred ASI Jasmeer singh to Lines and initiated departmental action against him. Constable Sureh has been transferred too,"
said Delhi police PRO Madhur Verma.
