Traffic comes to standstill in Central Delhi

NEW DELHI: Central Delhi and other nearby areas were thrown into disarray, after traffic snarls were caused in the area due to a procession taken out by a religious community on Monday, said police.
Snarls were seen in roads connecting to New Delhi's Connaught Place area, among other areas, stranding motorists in traffic for some kilometres.
"We made sure that the procession passed peacefully without any incident," said a senior police official from Central District.
Delhi Police tweeted that traffic will remain heavy from Pahari Bhojla to Karbala, due to the procession, in aforementioned areas: Pahari Bhojla, Chitli Qabar, Matia Mahal Chowk, Jama Masjid, Chawari Bazar, Chowk Hauz Qazi, Ajmeri Gate, Paharganj Bridge, Chelmsford Road, Connaught Place, Parliment Street, Raisina Road, Vijay Chowk, Krishna Menon Marg, Tughlaq Road, Aurobindo Marg and Jor Bagh. The procession will end at Karbala.
Some construction work has also caused traffic jam, according to police, leading heavy to snarls from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road to IGNOU Road.
There was also obstruction of traffic in the carriageway from Pratap Nagar towards Azad Market, due to the breakdown of a truck on Kishanganj Chowk.
