Told to get a job, man kills 70-year-old aunt in Burari

New Delhi: A 45-year-old man allegedly battered his elderly aunt to death with a flower pot and injured his mother by hitting her on the head with a brick in north Delhi's Burari. Police on Wednesday said they have arrested the accused, identified as Kanhaiya Kumar, who is believed to mentally unstable.

The incident was reported late Tuesday night when Kumar, who lives with his family in Burari, when entered his house and started an argument with his 17-year-old daughter and wife.

"When Kumar accused his daughter and wife of roaming around in the area, his 65-year-old aunt Bala Devi and 70-year-old mother Maya told him he is not doing any job, forcing his wife and daughter to work and feed the family," said a police officer.

Angered at being told to get a job, Kumar started beating his daughter and wife. When the two elderly women tried to intervene, he took a flower pot from outside his neighbour's shanty and struck his Bala Devi on the head. He then took a brick and struck his mother on the head.

When Kumar's wife and children tried to stop him, he thrashed them too.

"His wife, daughter and son ran out of the house and alerted another person. Meanwhile, the accused fled the house," said the officer.

The victims were rushed to a hospital, where Bala Devi was declared brought dead. Cops added that later, Kumar was arrested from north Delhi and a case was registered.

"We have not found any treatment in recent time of the accused but we are suspecting that he is unstable," added the officer
