To combat fake news, Delhi CEO launches ‘Myth vs Facts register’

New Delhi: In a crucial move to curb the spread of misinformation ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi, R. Alice Vaz, has launched the “Myth vs

Facts Register,” a dedicated online platform aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.

The Myth vs Facts Register, accessible at https://www.ceodelhi.gov.in/mythvsfacts.aspx(https://www.ceodelhi.gov.in/mythvsfacts.aspx), is designed to counter fake news and misleading information circulating on social media and other platforms during the election period. The portal will serve as a reliable source for verified information, enabling both Delhi voters and media organisations to distinguish between fact and fiction. It will be regularly updated with accurate, evidence-based responses to misinformation, ensuring voters have access to timely and trustworthy details.

Speaking at the launch, Ms. Vaz emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating, “This initiative is a significant step towards safeguarding Delhi voters from the harmful effects of fake news. By promoting transparency and accuracy, the Myth vs Facts Register empowers citizens to make informed decisions during election.”

The launch of this register comes as part of the Delhi Election Commission’s efforts to address the growing concerns around the impact of fake news on democratic processes. With elections often marred by false narratives and unverified claims, this initiative offers a timely and effective solution.

The portal will focus on debunking myths related to the electoral process, candidates, voting procedures, and other election-related matters. Whenever a piece of fake news or misleading content is identified, the CEO’s office will thoroughly verify the information and publish the correct details on the Myth vs Facts Register. This is aimed at providing Delhi voters with a platform for quick fact-checking.

“The Myth vs Facts Register is a vital resource for voters, media organisations, and anyone seeking clarity about election-related matters. It serves as a trustworthy platform for verifying election-related misinformation, disinformation, and fake news,” Vaz further remarked. Through this initiative, the Delhi Election Commission is not only enhancing the transparency of the election process but also fostering responsible communication across various media platforms.
