Tihar launches 'Samarthan' for those depressed

NEW DELHI: The Tihar Jail has adopted the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Psychological First Aid programme to sensitise its inmates towards mental health issues. The project, titled 'Samarthan', will enable inmates who suffer from mental health issues to avail expert medical assistance from staff working in the prisons. The inaugration of the programme was carried out at NDMC Convention Center and was attended by people from diverse fields like medicine, legal, social welfare, NGOs, judicial officers and prision officers, advocates and volunteers from MHFI.
The programme will be carried out under the guidance of Dr Nand Kumar, professor of psychiatry at AIIMS.
