Three suicides reported in Gzb in less than 48 hours

Ghaziabad: Three persons – including a mother-daughter duo, aged 48 and 28 years, and a 43-years-old police officer posted at Kavi Nagar police station – allegedly committed suicide in two separate incidents in Ghaziabad.

In the first incident, a woman, identified as Prema Bist, hanged herself from the ceiling fan of a room inside her house, while her elder daughter was found dead with injury marks on her throat, on Tuesday evening. The incident took place in Indirapuram's Nyay Khand area.

Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City), said, "Prema's husband Balwant Singh and younger daughter left home on Tuesday morning for work. In the evening, when Singh telephoned at home and got no reply, he alerted a friend who found the house gate locked. Later, when Singh reached home, the door was broken and police was informed about the mishap" said Kumar.

Police said that Singh works at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, while his dead daughter was employed with a company in Greater Noida. Police have recovered a suicide note from the spot which was written by the mother and addressed to her younger daughter Monika, who works in Gurugram.

"I did not want to leave you alone, but I am forced by circumstances to do so. Please excuse me for this harsh step. I love you so much. Take care of yourself and settle down after finding a good boy. I will protect you from all miseries. I will be present whenever you remember me," read the note.

"Preliminary investigations showed that the two committed suicide under severe mental stress.

"The bodies of both the deceased are sent for post mortem and actual reason behind the death can be ascertained once we get the autopsy reports" added Kumar.

In the second incident, sub-inspector Vijay Kumar allegedly shot himself in Kavi Nagar police station compound on early Wednesday morning.

Police said that Vijay had returned to his room at Kavi Nagar police station after completing his night duty. "He shot himself in the head early Wednesday morning. Other police officials present in the station heard the gun shot and rushed to his room, where they found him lying in a pool of blood. Immediately, he was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed to injuries" said Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of police, Ghaziabad.

Police are yet to ascertain the reason why the cop committed suicide. "It seems the officer was under stress due to some reason. Investigations in the case are underway and the body has been sent for post-mortem" added Krishna.

Kumar was a native of Aligarh and had been posted at different police stations.
