Three nabbed after shootout in Dwarka for series of crimes

New Delhi: Three men, who robbed an Army captain deployed in Siachen of his car and attacked a CISF inspector with a knife, were arrested from Dwarka early Wednesday morning after a brief shootout.

Police sources said that the control room of Dwarka district had received calls about a series of crimes including snatching and robbery between August 19 to 21.

The arrested men have been identified as Anil (22), Ashwani Rajoura (29) and Sahil (22).

Among these calls was one from an Army captain on August 20, who said he was robbed of his Nissan Micra car and ATM cards by six motorcycle-borne men in Dwarka Sector-5.

The same night, an inspector with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) reported that he was attacked with a knife and robbed of Rs 4,000 by four motorcycle-borne criminals near Dwarka Sector-14 Metro Station.

"While attacking him, the robbers kept on asking him the head constable's whereabouts," said a police official, adding that the accused committed three more crimes in the district the same night.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said that the modus operandi was analysed by the Dwarka Special Staff and other police teams.

"The car robbed from the Army captain was left by the robbers near Sanjay T-point in Mehram Nagar after it got punctured. They then attacked the CISF inspector and stole a Maruti Ritz car," the DCP said.

"The robbers then abandoned the second car as well and stole a Swift Dzire in Madipur, but this time the ERV staff of Uttam Nagar police station chased them and tracked them to Dwarka North, where the criminals fled after abandoning the car," he added.

Subsequently, police teams, as well as the DCP, searched around 800 houses in Dwarka North to locate the criminals.

"Forensic analysis of the Nissan Micra and the motorcycles left behind by the criminals revealed fingerprints of the suspects, which was got matched with the data bank at SCRB," police said.

Eventually, one of the criminal was identified and located in Dwarka, where three of accused were arrested after a brief shootout around 4 am on Wednesday.
