Three murders in as many parts of Capital, two solved
NEW DELHI: Three murders have been reported in the Capital this week, with Delhi Police arresting the accused men in two of these cases.
In north west district, Delhi Police on Thursday arrested a 22-year-old man, identified as Firoz, for strangling a 97-year-old woman to death in Maurya Enclave area.
Cops said the motive of the murder was robbery, adding that the stolen gold and silver valuables worn by the nonagenarian victim have been recovered from Firoz's possession.
According to police, on the intervening night of 23 and 24 September, one Babu Ali came to Maurya enclave police station and reported a missing complaint of his mother Nathia a 97-year-old resident of Pitampura.
Police teams were soon formed teams to search for the missing woman. Hours later, her lifeless body was found lying unattended in North Rohini. It was later sent to the mortuary at BSA Hospital.
Post-mortem of the body was conducted and it was found that she was strangulated to death. Her gold earrings and silver bangles were also found to be missing.
This led cops to investigate the case from the robbery angle and eventually Firoz, a distant relative of the victim, was arrested.
In the second incident, a man murdered his wife's alleged paramour on Thursday night after the woman left him to stay with the victim in Swaroop Nagar area of in north west Delhi.
Cops on Friday said that the arrested accused Amarnath had five children with his wife in 16 years of marriage.
However, she reportedly recently had got into a relationship with another man Mohan, a tailor by profession.
Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) said, "Some days ago, the lady had left her husband and went to live with Mohan, along with her children. On Thursday, Amarnath went to Mohan's house and a scuffle broke out between the two."
"Amarnath hit Mohan with a slab on the head. Mohan was declared brought dead by the hospital. The accused has been arrested," she added.
In the third incident, a man's body was found lying in a park adjacent to Radisson Blue hotel, along the side of the Metro tracks in Dwarka Sector-14.
Local police rushed to the spot immediately after they were informed. Later, the victim was identified as 35-year-old Raja Ram, a resident of Bharat Nagar, who worked in a garment shop.
Cops said the victim had severe injuries on his neck and throat, and the matter is being investigated.
