Three more private laboratories to be utilised for testing purposes in Ggm

GURUGRAM: With rising cases of COVID-19, the Haryana government is all set to further ramp up the medical facilities in Gurugram. On Friday, the district administration announced three more private laboratories to be utilised for testing purposes.

These centres are Strand Life Sciences in Sector-34, SRL Limited in Sector-18 and Core Diagnostics in Udyog Vihar Phase-3. In total there will be five private testing laboratories in Gurugram. Compared to other major cities in the NCR, even though Gurugram may not have witnessed a spike in the number of cases, there is criticism of less samples being collected for testing. No time was lost in setting up the first dedicated hospital for COVID-19 in the city with ESIC hospital being used for the medical facility. Another hospital will be set up in Manesar.

The state has also taken cognisance of the fact that a large number of doctors are complaining of the lack of Protective Personal Equipments, which is making them vulnerable of contracting the disease. Around 2.5 lakh kits have been ordered by the state as announced by the Chief Minister. According to sources, 40 per cent of the inventories will be provided to the medical experts in Gurugram. It is important to note that the nurse in Sector-10 government hospital, who had contracted the infection and later recovered, cited how inadequate safety gear posed risk to the doctors.

Over 1,000 ventilators are also expected to be brought in for Gurugram hospitals.

Additional Chief Secretary to the Haryana government VS Kundu, who is the nodal officer for Gurugram took a meeting with the officials of the health department and district administration and passed several instructions to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Sources said that Kundu has asked the officials, especially duty magistrates, to visit the slums and inform the people about social distancing.

"As of now we have been fortunate of preventing the spread of COVID-19 and it is still at stage 2 situations.

All efforts are being undertaken to make sure that the deadly disease does not spread through community transmission," said a senior official from the Gurugram Health Department.

Meanwhile, District Commissioner Amit Khatri announced that ESIC hospital in Sector-9A would be converted into COVID-19 hospital.
