NEW DELHI: To end the menace of heinous robberies, the Special Staff of Outer District was tasked with nabbing gangs active areas of the district and elsewhere in Delhi.

Their efforts bore fruit on Friday after three men belonging to a robbery gang were arrested at Anukampa Chowk.

Cops said the accused were identified as Sheikh Rafiq alias Roka, Nizam alias Nazir and Sheikh Anwar alias Aaka.

On Friday, a tip-off was received at the office of Special Staff that five robbers of the Nizam and Rokha – responsible for over a dozen robberies, burglaries and thefts in many posh areas of Delhi – would come to Pushpanjali Enclave via Rani Bagh in an auto, equipped with illegal weapons to commit another burglary.

Immediately, barricades were placed at Anukampa Chowk and checking of all vehicles coming from Rani Bagh to Anukampa Chowk was done.

Around 12.10 pm, a yellow-coloured auto was spotted by the police personnel at the barricade.

As soon as the auto reached near Anukampa chowk, the police informer identified the accused and passed a signal to the raiding team.

The police staff immediately nabbed all the accused, knowing well that the accused could fire at them with the firearms.

During their inspection, a country-made pistol along with a live cartridge was recovered from each of the three men.

"During interrogation, the accused men disclosed to have committed dozens of robberies, burglaries and thefts in Delhi. Most of them were in posh areas. Gold, diamond and silver articles worth around Rs 15 lakh were recovered from the possession of accused persons," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla on Saturday.
