Three killed as car rams into stationary truck
New Delhi: Delhi Police on Sunday stated that three persons died and one was injured after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a stationed truck in outer Delhi's Mangolpuri.
Police said they suspect that the driver of the car slept off while driving, which caused the incident.
Police claimed that it is suspected that the victims were returning from Firozpur area, when their car collided with a stationary truck in Mangolpuri area.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar confirmed the incident and told Millennium Post that after the incident was reported on Sunday evening, a police team rushed to the spot and started the rescue work.
"We suspect that the driver of the car might have slept which had resulted in the accident but we are probing the case from all angles," said the senior police officer.
"The car was damaged so badly that it took half an hour to take out the victims who were rushed to the spot and in which three persons were declared brought dead whereas one is still receiving treatment," said a police source.
The deceased were all resident of outer Delhi and after examining their documents, police called their relatives.
Over the last nine years, Delhi's roads have witnessed deaths of more than 16000 people who died in the road accident, data from Delhi Police has revealed.
The police data, accessed by Millennium Post, that last year, the number of casualties in road accident was 1,591.
