Three arrested for robbing truck driver and his helper

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad police have arrested three criminals for allegedly robbing the driver and helper of a truck carrying some confidential Indian Army equipments.

Cops said that the accused flee the spot after they came to know about the consignment loaded in the truck but robbed the driver and conductor with cash and ATM cards on gun point.

According to police, the arrested accused were identified as Sonu Tyagi, Sonu Prajapathi and Praveen Das, all natives of Ghaziabad.

"The accused fled away with Rs 19 thousand cash and ATM cards. During the robbery attempt the accused also burnt victim's hands and other body parts with cigarette," said police.

The alleged robbery incident took place in wee hours on Saturday when the truck which was moving to Imphal from Delhi Cantonment was intercepted by robbers near New Bus Stand metro station on GT road in Sihani Gate police station area of Ghaziabad.

"Co-driver Atul, helper Anil and driver Ashok were sitting in the truck which was carrying parts of army helicopter worth Rs 250 crores," a senior police officer said.

Sudhir Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of police, Ghaziabad said that the accused used a swift car owned by Sonu Prajapathi to commit the crime.

"Police reaches out to the criminals with the help of their car's registration number. The accused persons told police that they were not aware with the consignment present in the truck. Police have arrested the culprits within 12 hours after the FIR was lodged and also recovered the stolen money and three ATMs card along with illegal pistol and some live cartridge from their possession," said Singh.

The officer further said that an army personnel Vishal and another driver were also assigned the duty to be present with the vehicle but they didn't board the truck from Delhi and asked the driver to pick them from Hapur area.
