NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Friday said they have arrested three men for robbing a man from Tamil Nadu in Sarojini Nagar, earlier this week.
Police said the accused were identified as Suraj (25), Shyam (19) and Satish Tiwari (21), all residents of Pillanji village of Sarojini Nagar.
With their arrest, cops said they have solved the case of robbery at gunpoint of an Assistant Engineer, employed with the Tamil Nadu government.
Sources said that on the intervening night of January 25 and 26, complainant V Satish Prabhu Kumar, who currently resides in Sarojini Nagar, filed a complaint that as he was reaching home and was parking his car, four unknown persons threatened him at gunpoint and robbed him of two mobile phones and cash worth Rs 18,000.
After robbing Prabhu, all the four persons fled the spot on two motorcycles.
The complainant also told police that while the culprits were fleeing, he managed to notice the registration numbers of both the motorcycles, which he promptly reported to cops.
After tracking the bike, cops arrested Suraj from Pilanji. On his instance, the other accused Satish and Shyam were also arrested.
From the accused, cops recovered the stolen cash, the mobile phones and the two motor cycles.
Suraj disclosed to cops that last year, he had come in contact with Sanjay, and started robbing passersby and labours at night. "Further interrogation revealed that accused Sanjay had been released from Tihar a few days ago. Since they were in dire need of money, the accused planned to commit robberies," Romil Baaniya, DCP South, said on Friday.
